Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important political figure commented the incident left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
