American Forces Targeted a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, President Trump Stated Lacking Offering Details.

Ex-President Donald Trump has stated that American forces hit a "major plant" in Venezuela last week. But, the ex-leader offered no details on the exact purpose or location of the strike, and there has been no additional clarification from his camp.

Unspecific Comments Offered In a Talk Show

"We just eliminated – I'm not sure if you heard – they have a big plant, where the vessels depart from. Two nights ago, we took it out. So we hit them decisively," Trump allegedly told GOP supporter and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Implications of a Verified Strike

If a US military action is verified, it would represent the first ground target hit since the Pentagon initiated a buildup of US military presence in the Caribbean region to disrupt drug traffickers that the Trump administration alleges operate under the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

This initial objective of the military buildup has transformed into a blockade aimed at hindering the country's crude oil shipments.

Online Video and Administration Claims

Trump has for weeks warned that American military units are ready to expand the operations by striking targets within Venezuela, a move that would in theory require congressional approval.

Video footage circulated online on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion allegedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. However, the footage or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team reportedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Current Strategic Situation

The Maduro government has remained silent on the alleged strike Trump described. Additionally, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela concerning it.

The deployment of US military in the region – a position some have called a naval quarantine – represents the most expansive naval operation of the Trump era.

Sources have avoided from calling the operation as a blockade, but have confirmed that about 15,000 service members are positioned across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to implement existing economic sanctions.
